Some citrus based diet sodas, like Diet Sunkist Orange and Diet 7-Up, help prevent the formation of kidney stones. According to studies these diet sodas contain more citrate and malate, which helps prevent the formation of kidney stones. But that same study says that any person drinking diet sodas must also drink plenty of water for hydration, eat a healthy diet, and exercise.
And regular colas, already bad for weight gain and bone strength, have the opposite effect on the kidneys; they cause the formation of kidney stones!

Cheerleading World Championships in Orlando
The Cheerleading World Championships were held at Walt Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida from April 23-24. The organization behind the event is the International Cheer Union (ICU), which was formed in 2007 with 60 member countries to act as the international federation for the sport of cheerleading. The ICU hopes that with this groundbreaking event the stage will be set for cheerleading to become an Olympic sport. A bid is pending before the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As of now several countries have classified cheerleading as a sport, while others play it safe by calling it an athletic discipline.
In the dance events Team USA, represented by the University of Cincinnati cheerleaders, swept away the competition winning all three gold medals in Cheerdance Jazz (Ukraine took silver and Chinese Taipei got the bronze), Cheerdance Hip-Hop (silver: Thailand bronze: China), and Cheerdance Freestyle (silver: Chinese Taipei bronze: Finland).

Cheerleading teams from Canada (above) won two golds in the All Girl Elite event (silver: Colombia bronze: Mexico) and the Coed Elite event (silver: Chile bronze: New Zealand).
The cheerleading team from China won the Group Partner Stunt (silver: Mexico bronze: New Zealand). More than 100 teams from around the world took part in the first ever Cheerleading World Championships; apart from North America and Asia cheerleaders from South America and Europe were also represented. Below left, Colombian cheerleaders and right, the cheerleading team from Finland:

American teams also dominated the remaining cheer events, winning 3 golds in 6 events apart from the two won by Canada and one by China. USA won 6 gold medals in total with their sweep of the dance competitions. The results of the three remaining cheer events:All Girl Premier: USA (gold) Finland (silver) UK (bronze)
Coed Premier: USA (gold) Thailand (silver) Colombia (bronze)
Coed Partner Stunt: USA (gold) Colombia (silver) Slovenia (bronze)
The Team USA cheerleaders, numbering 60, were chosen to form the all-girl and coed teams through a three-part selection process. After filling out an online application, eligible cheerleaders were invited to an official tryout in Louisville, Kentucky. From there, the selection committee chose the final 60 cheerleaders.

Female ski jumpers court case
Female ski jumpers ignored by the IOC, in their demands for the inclusion of their sport in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, had their day in court in Canada. A group of 15 former and current female ski jumpers had filed a lawsuit against the Vancouver Olympic organizing committee (VANOC), citing Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which guarantees gender equality.
The case opened for hearing on April 20 and after five days of hearings, British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Lauri Ann Fenlon said the issues behind the case are "very complex" and that she needed time to consider all the arguments. The case of the female ski jumpers is that VANOC must hold ski jumping for both genders or not hold the event at all. The IOC has already said that if the Canadian court rules in favor of the female athletes, they will simply hold the men's event outside Canada.

Emily Deschanel, who plays Dr. Temperance Brennan in the long-running and successful FOX television series Bones, stopped eating meat as a teenage girl. She is a member of PETA and works with the Humane Society and with the Farm Sanctuary. Emily now promotes her vegan lifestyle in Hollywood, not just on the question of preventing cruelty to animals, but because it is beneficial to the environment. Deschanel says: "I'm very low key about imposing my beliefs on others. I just do by example."
Emily Deschanel's mother, Mary Jo Deschanel, is an actress while her father, Caleb Deschanel worked as a cinematographer on many films including "Fly Away Home" and "The Passion of the Christ". He has also directed many television episodes including one of Bones. Emily's sister Zooey is also an actress: "My sister and I would put on productions of plays we wrote ourselves in our living room and charge a penny or something for people to see as early as (when I was) 6 or 7 years old."
Emily with her sister Zooey Deschanel, who is an aspiring vegetarian. Emily became a vegan as a 15-year old schoolgirl after watching Diet for a New America, a 1987 exposé on the impact of the meat and dairy industries on health and the environment. Deschanel says, "I just stopped eating and wearing animal products after that."
Emily is passionate about being vegan and sticks to her belief that vegan and vegetarian diets will save the environment. On the occasion of Earth Day Deschanel, who also drives a hybrid Prius, made a video where she said: "There is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist. Now-a-days being green is very fashionable — especially in Hollywood. While I think it is terrific to recycle and drive a hybrid, you can have an even greater impact on the environment by making one simple choice: don’t eat meat."

Emily has an impact on her boyfriends, most of whom turn vegetarian or reduce their meat-eating. "My current guy ate fish when we first started dating. I never preach. There are a lot of compassionate people who, when they hear about the horrors of factory farms or just start to think harder about what they are eating, can’t eat meat anymore."
To stay healthy and keep her body in shape, Emily Deschanel does Yoga, uses a treadmill, and goes cycling for exercise and fun with her boyfriend. On other days she works out with her trainer, Julie Diamond. Emily says that she enjoys eating meat substitutes: "I do eat some meat alternatives. I love (the wheat/soy protein) Gardein. You can only get it at Whole Foods. It's very tasty."
In an interview with Veg News Magazine, Emily Deschanel revealed her favorite vegan restaurant in LA: "Madeleine Bistro (in Tarzana). I took my whole cast there. Everyone loved it and can’t wait to go back. Dave Anderson, the chef/owner, is a genius. You must order the Red Beet Tartare (even if you hate beets). The Truffled Mac and Cheese is to die for. And the Bigger Maque is amazing! You feel sinful eating it because it tastes like a real burger. And, for dessert, either the Flourless Chocolate Cake or the Bananas Foster Split. My mouth is watering just thinking about it."

Young girls diet
According to a recent survey girls aged 15 diet the most, with one in five 15 year olds regularly skipping breakfast and a worrying 18 per cent only eating one meal a day. Even 11-year olds have tried to diet and shockingly, six-year old girls are aware of foods that are bad for the figure!
Telegraph
Internet parental control software CyberSentinel carried out the survey of 1,500 girls between the ages of 6 and 15. One third of the 11-year-olds said they were 'too fat' and one in three also said they hated their tummy. Despite their bones still growing, 19 per cent had hang-ups about their bodies with chest (19 per cent) and legs (16 per cent) the main concerns. Fourteen per cent claimed they were unhappy with their arms and 13 per cent didn't like the shape of their posterior.
Overall 33 per cent of young girls have looked on the internet to find out more about dieting, slimming products and calorie control. And young girls will go to extreme lengths to emulate celebrities and models in the media. Whether they are naturally slim like Ana Beatriz Barros:
Or a ridiculously skinny fashion model who is either anorexic or bulimic:
Such images have a bad impact on teen and pre-teen girls who are already traumatized over the natural changes occurring in their bodies. Even girls who are celebrities suffer from a negative body image, like the model Ali Michael and the actress and singer Scarlett Pomers. While going through the normal growth pangs and entering puberty, like many other girls, Scarlett saw changes in her body during Christmas 2004. "I had gained a few pounds from all the cakes and cookies everyone had baked during the holidays, and for some reason, it bothered me."
Scarlett used pro-anorexia websites to help her drastically cut weight, until she got so sick that her parents had to send her to rehab. Today she is fully recovered and an ambassador for National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).

Girls and red meat
The Examiner reports that vegan and vegetarian diets protect the health of teen girls, while excessive eating of red meat increases the risk of getting breast cancer as adults.
For example, scientists have been speculating for decades that the anti-estrogen effects of isoflavones—compounds that are unique to soyfoods—are responsible for differences in breast cancer rates between Western and Japanese women. A National Cancer Institute study found that risk for breast cancer was 58% lower for women who had consumed soyfoods between the ages of 5 and 11 years.
While the studies aren’t conclusive, it clearly makes sense for young girls to consume soyfoods that are rich in isoflavones. Soymilk (choose a brand that is fortified with calcium and vitamin D) and tofu are the best sources.
More recently, Harvard researchers looked at the effect of red meat consumption during adolescence. They asked more than 40,000 women what they ate in high school, and then followed their health over the next seven years. Those who reported eating the most red meat and processed meat during their teen years had a more than 30% higher risk for getting breast cancer as adults than vegetarian and vegan girls.

Pretty feet for health and sex appeal

The sexy actress Shannon Elizabeth has two body parts with 19 muscles, 26 bones, 33 joints, and 107 ligaments each. Her pretty feet! All women like to have their feet clean and pretty, because they expose them while wearing heels and sandals. Women and girls enjoy pampering their feet with pedicures and massages for the relaxation it gives them. Female feet have very sensitive nerve endings, which makes them erogenous zones in lovemaking, and pretty feet heighten a woman's sex-appeal. But taking care of your feet is also important for general health.
Most feet problems come with old age, like arthritic joint pain, thinning of fat pads cushioning the soles, inflammation, and bunions. However if you're obese these problems can strike in your 20s and 30s. Diabetes is one disease that reduces the sensation in the feet and causes skin problems to develop unnoticed. Diabetics cannot feel scratches and blisters in the feet, and because of poor circulation and distance from the heart such wounds on the feet don't heal fast enough, leading in many cases to amputation. Diabetics should have their feet examined annually by a doctor and avoid tight-fitting shoes.
Wearing heels enhances female sex appeal but too many inches worn for too long creates severe problems for the feet. Podiatrists recommend wearing heels that are no more than two inches. Conditions like flat feet and high arches bring their own problems; those with flat feet develop weak muscles and stretched tendons, causing tendinitis and arthritis. They should wear specially designed footwear that supports the arch and heel. People with high arches in their feet should wear roomy shoes with softer padding to ease the impact on the balls and heels of their feet.
In summer keeping feet in shoes and socks, specially cotton socks, for too long creates moisture from all the sweat and fungal infections develop on your pretty feet. The feet have more sweat glands than your underarms. Therefore let your feet breathe when you're home, use anti-fungal powders, and wear moisture-absorbing socks and airy shoes. For healthy feet the best exercise is walking——in fact walking bare foot around your house, or on grass, improves circulation and helps make your feet strong and flexible. There are other exercises for taking care of the feet: wiggle your toes, do foot circles (rotate the feet right and left from the ankles), stretch your toes back using your hands, and gently massage your feet.
To get pretty feet trim overgrown nails with a clipper and file away the rough edges. Smooth your nails further and make them shiny with a buffing block. Soak your feet in warm water filled with scented soak to make them soft for 5-10 minutes. Don't soak them for too long as this can destroy the natural oils. Next exfoliate, remove dead and rough skin, from the soles of your feet with a pumice stone or file. This reveals fresh new skin and also helps to boost circulation in the feet.
Cuticles are that part of the skin from which the nails grow. They protect the nail from bacteria, but sometimes press the nail down. Therefore use a cuticle remover and a cuticle stick to push them back into their nail beds. Then moisturize your feet with a foot cream, and remove any cream that comes on the toenails using polish remover. Apply a base coat on the nails to prevent them turning yellow, wait for one minute and then apply polish brushing from left to right. Apply one more coat after a gap of two minutes. Now you have clean healthy feet with smooth skin and pretty toenails!

Eating meat and meat substitutes
Cute actress Mila Kunis devours a hot dog. Humans have been eating meat since the earliest times along with grains, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. Early in the last century the amount of meat being consumed by Europeans and Americans increased dramatically, till people were eating three servings of meat in a day! From the 1970s the amount of meat consumed by westerners has been falling steadily as awareness about its health and environmental implications spreads. People also don't like eating meat for ethical reasons. But there is still a belief that animal protein is essential for a strong body.Meat eating and health
A federal study conducted by the National Cancer Institute found that meat consumption increases your weight and risk of dying from strokes, heart disease, and cancer. It has always been known that red meat (from cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, etc) contains a lot of fat and cholesterol, therefore eating too much of it is a health risk, but the study also claims that eating excessive amounts of white meat (from chicken and fish) also has many risks. Meat also takes a long time to digest, and the longer it stays in the digestive tract depending on the amount eaten, the greater the risk of disease.
Meat contains several cancer-causing chemicals. Research has shown that all meat eaters have worms and a high incidence of parasites in their intestines. This is hardly surprising given the fact that dead flesh (cadaver) is a favorite target for microorganisms of all sorts. The new findings support a previous study published earlier this year in the Annals of Internal Medicine, which showed that eating meat boosts risk of prostate cancer by 40 Percent. And just last month, parents learned that their children had a 60% increased risk of developing leukemia if they consumed meat products, such as ham, sausages and hamburgers. (see more at Natural News)
While people are making an effort to reduce the amount of meat in their diet, some myths persist. People continue to believe that a purely vegetarian diet will leave them feeling weak and will require supplements, because meat is a major source of protein and iron. This is a myth because while protein is abundant in nuts, pulses, peas, whole grains, cheese, and tofu; iron is found in beans, whole grains, spinach, and dried fruits.
PETA activist Ashley Fruno of Canada displays the various cuts of meat on her nude body and holds a banner to protest against eating meat at a shopping mall in Bangkok, 21 March 2007(AFP/Getty Images)
The other reasons for giving up eating meat are ethical, the question of cruelty to living beings, and environmental. Eating too much meat is bad for the environment because livestock are raised by feeding them on crops and plants. These vast livestock populations emit methane gas and also consume huge amounts of water. If there were less demand of meat, this livestock population would fall, and the pressure on land would reduce.
Meat is costly, but meat-production is subsidized by US and European governments. Meat production is cruel and has been known to cause diseases like mad cow. This happens when unused parts of dead livestock are mixed into feed and given to fresh livestock to eat!Meat eating for taste and meat substitutes
Many famous vegetarians have gone back to eating meat like Madonna, Amy Smart, and Liv Tyler. Some others are against eating meat and chicken but will happily devour fish like Olivia Wilde. Only a few are committed enough to be vegan like Jennifer Connelly. A vegan is a pure vegetarian who does not consume any product derived from animals like dairy products, eggs, or honey.
People drift back to meat eating because of their cravings for delicious meat-based foods. However there are plant-based products which can be used as meat substitutes:Seitan, also known as wheat gluten, tastes like meat and was a staple in the diet of vegetarian Buddhist monks in China. The jackfruit is called the 'meat of vegetarians' because of it's fibrous, meat like texture; in India it is cooked as a vegetable dish called Kathal (pronounced as kut-hull) which tastes like meat. Tempeh is a cultured soybean cake. TVP, or textured vegetable protein, is another great meat substitute. Quorn is made from a mushroom and combined with egg white and vegetable flavors to help give it the taste and texture of meat.
There are also ready-to-eat treats that taste like meat: Boca Burgers, Quorn Dogs, Tofurky roast, Smart Dogs, unchicken, etc. Scientists are also working on creating synthetic meat from stem cells of pigs.
People believe that a healthy body is not possible without animal protein. This is specially the case if you are involved in some intense sport, strength training, or some other strenuous physical activity. The actor Josh Hartnett, named the world's sexiest vegetarian, was told to start eating meat by a doctor. "I was shooting a movie in Bulgaria called The Black Dahlia and I was boxing for it. I was kind of anemic because I wasn't eating very much and I was working out all the time. So I went to the doctor.....he told me, You need to eat meat."
But then we have this muscular Vegan Fighter:
His name is Mac Danzig and he competes in the tough and brutal Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournaments. Mac told PETA, "When I'm not in training, I eat Soy Delicious ice cream and vegan chocolate chip cookies like they're going out of style. There's also some awesome vegan restaurants out here in LA, like Native Foods, that have great vegan pizza. When I'm in training, I eat a lot of brown rice, tofu, oatmeal, and of course lots of vegetables and fruit."
If you're not concerned with ethics or the environment, just reduce the amount of meat in your diet for health reasons!

Drinking tea

Drinking tea is good for health. Tea is the most widely consumed drink in the world after water. It is said to reduce stress and boost the immune system. Tea contains caffeine, a pick-me-up, but also has polyphenols that are powerful antioxidants, which help to fight cancerous cells.
Drinking tea is also good for oral hygiene. One of the best ways to fight cavities and reduce plaque is drinking black tea. American researchers have found compounds in it that not only kill cavity-causing bacteria in dental plaque, but affect an enzyme - glucosyltranferase - which helps convert sugars into the sticky material plaque uses to stick to teeth. On exposure to black tea, bacteria also lose their ability to form clumps with other bacteria in plaque, thereby reducing the total mass of the dental plaque.
Daily Mail reports that a study published in the British Medical Journal found that there was a particularly high incidence of cancer of the oesophagus in northern Iran, where smoking and alcohol consumption is low but people are used to drinking large amounts of very hot tea - at least 70C. It's a dubious study - isn't it possible that the water in that place is polluted with chemicals that cause such cancer?
Moreover people in India and China have been drinking tea, and even very hot tea, for thousands of years without any evidence of cancer of the oesophagus. Thankfully the British study concludes that Britons drink tea at less than 60C, which is safe.

Michelle Rodriguez tough girl

Michelle Rodriguez is a pretty girl with a healthy body and a tough girl attitude.
The actress stars in the latest Fast and Furious movie, which she was promoting around the world. "I passed out after coming out of the airplane after, like, visiting six different countries in 10 days. ... They put me in a wheelchair because I couldn't breathe." As Michelle was being taken through the airport in the wheelchair a photographer began snapping her pictures. Rodriguez, who was now fully recovered, got so angry at the invasion of privacy that she jumped out of the wheelchair and chased away the frightened paparazzi! "That guy's really lucky he has long legs."

Michelle Rodriguez, who has starred in action movies like Resident Evil, SWAT, The Fast and the Furious, and Blood Rayne, built her tough girl attitude consciously as a self-defense mechanism. "I was always considered butch. I cultivated the image. It was my defense against having to be a sex object like the other girls in my class. The boys considered me one of the guys until I finally developed breasts."
Michelle is Puerto Rican and Dominican. On TV she played a tough female cop on Lost named Ana-Lucia Cortez; she had a chance at another TV role in Desperate Housewives, which was made famous by Eva Longoria, but chose not to take it. Rodriguez will star next in her home production Trópico de sangre and in the sci-fi flick Avatar later this year.
As a young girl Michelle Rodriguez was sporty and into rollerblading, biking, and dancing. She was also hooked on driving fast cars and drag-racing with her boyfriend at age 14....even though she never even had a license before she had to train for The Fast and the Furious! Michelle was arrested, did brief jail time, and community service for several driving incidents and offenses. Nowadays its the environment-friendly Prius for her: "I'm just trying to be good for a couple of years and then if I ever really feel the itch to want to race a car, I'll just go to Germany."
Despite her outward toughness, and the bad girl image, Michelle Rodriguez had the soul of an artist. As a young girl Michelle had the nice hobby of writing, and she wrote poems and short stories, but to earn money had to start working as a film extra. Her big break came when she auditioned for the movie Girlfight, which was about the sport of female boxing. Rodriguez had never boxed in her life and went through four-and-a-half months of intense boxing training at the Gleason's gym in Brooklyn. It involved running for 2 ½ miles, followed by half an hour of skipping, lifting weights, drinking protein. "I would do 30 to 40 push-ups a day, 100 sit-ups, lift weights, jog, plus spar with real boxers," says the 5-foot-5-inch actress.
After all that training and doing the movie, Michelle was so impressive as a boxer that people encouraged her to take it up as a profession! The boxing training also helped her lose weight and pack on muscle: "I gained about a good 25 pounds of muscles. I have a lot more respect for the sport."
Because of her role in this movie, and her tough girl attitude, people pegged Michelle to be bisexual. In 2006 Rodriguez starred with Kristanna Loken in Blood Rayne (above) and the two girls developed a close friendship. Kristanna Loken dropped hints that their relationship was quite intimate, and the two were seen with their arms around each other in LA. Michelle told Cosmopolitan UK that she had "experimented with both sexes" but has not come out openly. She has been in brief relationships with men like Vin Diesel and Olivier Martinez.
Michelle Rodriguez with a friend at the Hotel du Cap in Cannes. The tough girl is 5'5" and has a healthy body, even though she loves eating chocolate cake. 30-year old Michelle is also non-vegetarian, "I used to feel bad about eating meat, but we kill roaches. What's the difference? A life is a life." In the past Rodriguez says that she used the cayenne pepper-lemon water cleanse to flush the toxins from her body. As for drinking alcohol Rodriguez is all about moderation: "I'm the type of person who goes to a club, has a few drinks, then switches to water and dances my ass off all night."
