No these are not lingerie models pretending to fight, but actual female boxers. They are in bras for the weighing in ceremony before the boxing match. The blonde is Regina Halmich of Germany, while on the right is her opponent Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer from Israel; they are both professional boxers.
Regina Halmich has now retired, with a record of 54 wins in 56 professional fights, and this photo is from her last boxing match back in 2007. Some other countries do not recognize female boxing, amateur or professional, as a sport. The US allowed female boxing only in 1993 and the UK in 1997. Amateur female boxing may be included in the 2012 London Olympics as a sport.
Natasha Jonas (below right) fights Alanna Murphy at the women’s ABA finals in Manchester this month. Light-welterweight Natasha Jonas won her third national title with an emphatic 17-1 points win over the Army’s Alanna Murphy. Natasha Jonas has made her place in the prospective English women’s squad for the 2012 Olympics: "It’s a massive decision and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed because if we got into the Olympics the gyms would just pack out overnight. It is the biggest thing that could ever happen to the sport. I got into boxing because I liked it, not because I thought I was going to make anything of it. I never even thought I’d box for England, let alone go to the Olympics. But as things went on I started to believe it and now I want it more than anything."
Even though amateur boxing is fought with protective headgear, medical experts believe that female breasts are sensitive and vulnerable to damage from punches. Doctors believe that blows to the breasts can lead to nodules which are difficult to distinguish from breast cancer, the most common form of cancer for women.

The Daily Mail reported in February that Sarah Blewden (above left) was banned from amateur boxing, because she had got breast implants, by the Amateur Boxing Association of England. "Amateur boxing is not about knocking people out, it is about scoring points through skill. It is great at keeping you fit. I have been told I am good at it and I just want the chance to go on in the sport," said Sarah. She is still pleading her case, asking if she could wear a breast protector (above right).
Apart from boxing, martial arts, and fencing, breast protectors are also used in many non-contact sports like football and basketball, where the ball can accidentally hit the chest. And similarly in softball and baseball, where at high speeds the ball can be dangerous to the sensitive breasts.Female boxing as a workout
Boxing as a workout is just like dancing; you move with rhythm, learn new techniques, and let out aggression. It is a cardiovascular exercise, which is known by many names, like recreational boxing, non-contact boxing, or shadow boxing. Actually shadow boxing is the throwing of punches while dodging and weaving around; the complete boxing workout also includes stretching, rope jumping, pummeling the bags, doing sit-ups and push-ups. The objective is to keep your body moving in continuous intense workouts.
Most women are happy with boxing as a workout; but for those who relish some actual contact, the training partner puts on heavily padded mitts, letting you punch away at them. Boxing can burn 900 calories in one hour and it works on the transverse abdominal muscle, which gives women their hourglass figure.
Many female celebrities use boxing as a workout; among these boxing girls Adriana Lima, athletic model Marisa Miller, and cute Doutzen Kroes. Another boxing enthusiast is Karolina Kurkova who is also dating male heavyweight boxing champion Wladmir Klitschko.
In an interview while promoting Victoria's Secret Doutzen Kroes (above photo) said: "We do shadow boxing. We don't really hit anyone. But I still take my aggression out on a bad day sometimes and pretend I'm hitting someone who wasn't nice to me." Adriana goes: "Yeah, it's awesome. I've tried everything, and treadmills get boring. Boxing is very energizing and it makes you thinner and more muscular."

Cheryl Cole beauty icon

Cheryl Cole of Girls Aloud with her husband Ashley Cole of the football club Chelsea. Cheryl Cole has been voted this year's top beauty icon in a poll by face mask company, Montagne Jeunesse. "Cheryl Cole is the nation's sweetheart and it's not hard to see why - she's beautiful and stylish but girly and down to earth at the same time... with immaculate skin and gorgeous hair, it's no wonder she came top of the beauty icons," said Montagne Jeunesse's Kate Johnson.
Chery Cole in Hello magazine, featured with the rest of the Girls Aloud pop group. Some of their performances in the music videos were considered raunchy, like dancing around poles, and Cheryl admitted to being the prude of the group: "I must confess, I feel uncomfortable with that routine."
Cheryl Cole is filming "The X Factor" auditions, where she is a judge. Some reports suggested that the beautiful singer had put on a little weight and had gone a crash diet and exercise program to get back in shape before the filming. But Cheryl retorts, "Why do I need to go on a diet? It's ridiculous. I'm perfectly healthy as I am and I've just finished the tour in the best shape of my life. I wish people would stop talking about my weight – I'm happy as I am."
The 5'3" tall Cheryl Cole at Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief Show, at last fall's London Fashion Week. Cheryl's figure has been guessed at near about 34C-23-33. Before her marriage to Ashley Cole the beautiful singer was known as Cheryl Tweedy.
While she was in Girls Aloud, Cheryl Cole and the other girls used a common nutritionist to stay in shape on tours. Cheryl is a vegetarian and she uses different fitness routines to stay in shape. "Try intense dancing for eight hours a day – I mean no normal human being is not going to drop weight, are they, really?" asks the beauty icon.

Hilary Rhoda sporty

Hilary Rhoda's first time on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue 2009. Wearing a Swimsuit by Lisa Cabrinha for Letarte, Hilary Rhoda was photographed by Raphael Mazzucco in Canouan Island, The Grenadines. In her interview Hilary said, "Sports Illustrated has been a household fixture for my family for so long. We always had subscriptions and my brother and I would get SI for Kids. I remember being in high school and wanting to be a 'Faces in the Crowd' for my high school sports. Now, I am so happy to be in the magazine because I've never really explored this side of modeling."

To a question on how she maintains her fitness, Hilary Rhoda said, "Exercise has always been a part of my life from playing tons of sports growing up to now working with a trainer most days of the week. Some people dread going to the gym but I look forward to it every day." Hilary Rhoda was a sporty young girl in her all-girls Catholic school, Academy of the Holy Cross, in Kensington, Maryland. Rhoda played basketball and soccer, and was on her school's swimming, lacrosse, and hockey teams (above left).
With her dark hair, prominent eyebrows, and healthy figure, Hilary Rhoda has carved out her own identity in the fashion business. Rhoda has appeared in ads and done runway modeling for Balenciaga, Valentino, Dolce & Gabana, Givenchy, Donna Karan, Gucci and Ralph Lauren among others. With her appearance in Sports Illustrated, Hilary has stepped into the world of more commercial modeling.

Hilary Rhoda was number 14 on Forbes' list of Supermodels with money, earning $2 million in 2008. Rhoda told French Elle that even in daily wear she "likes wearing heels and little jackets on jeans or a beautiful dress." On right Hilary Rhoda at the 37th Annual Fragrance Foundation FIFI Awards, as a representative of Estée Lauder Sensuous, wearing a beige strapless Jacques Fath dress and black Jimmy Choo strappy sandals. Hilary's fellow Estée Lauder endorsers are Carolyn Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley, and Gwyneth Paltrow. In 2008 Rhoda replaced Angelina Jolie as the face of St. John Knits.
Hilary Rhoda is 5'11" tall and is a healthy body size 4/6 with a figure of 34-26-36.5.

Hilary Rhoda told Vogue in 2007: "I tend to eat less on vacation because I am occupied with so many other things during the day. It will usually be grilled fish and a salad made with beets and hearts of palm. And I am a Diet Coke addict, but I am trying to drink more water." Hilary says she turned vegetarian in June 2007, but I think she's one of those people who believe that eating a little fish doesn't count. Rhoda also likes eating chocolates and crab cakes.

22-year old Hilary takes her sporty spirit on vacations, usually to sunny beaches where she keeps fit by riding a jet ski or kayaking. Hilary Rhoda's icy blue eyes are sensitive to the sun, she protects them by wearing sunglasses. She says she didn't care for her skin back in high school but now she puts on her sunscreen as soon as the sun is out. At most other times the athletic model plays tennis, goes jogging or does pilates in the gym, and has some other sporty pursuits. Hilary says she even burns off calories by, "Playing Wii tennis! That is a workout, believe it or not, but I also just got a trampoline in my apartment that I jump on when I watch TV."

Women's Sports Foundation opposes cheerleading
The Women's Sports Foundation is a national charitable educational organization seeking to advance the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity. It advocates gender quality in sports, and was a promoter of Title IX, the amendment which stipulated that any institution that receives federal funds must provide equal opportunities in sports for boys and girls. The foundation's attitude towards the sport of cheerleading is baffling, even though it gets girls physically active.
In 1999 the The Women's Sports Foundation called cheerleading an "exhibition activity" that is "unnecessary to the existence of an athletic team or the purpose of an athletic activity."
In 2004 when Maryland became the first university in the US to grant its cheerleading squad status as a varsity sport, Donna Lopiano, executive director of the Women's Sports Foundation, said: "To try and manufacture a sport and put a round peg in a square hole is disingenuous. I am not demeaning cheerleading skills, but is it a bona fide athletic opportunity for women or a convenient one for the athletic department?"
In 2005 Donna Lopiano even suggested that cheerleading was sexist and inappropriate: "What is the purpose of cheerleading? Is it to lead cheers or be sexually suggestive?"
Even when many more colleges and schools have recognized cheerleading as a sport, and cheerleading world championships are being held, the WSF still says that cheerleading is a support activity. The foundation further believes that calling cheerleading a sport just gives universities an excuse to eliminate more recognized women's teams. "Right now girls are vastly underrepresented on college rosters," says Nancy Hogshead-Makar, an attorney for the Women's Sports Foundation. "I would hate to see viable sports that lead to Olympic possibilities, international opportunities, thwarted in favor of a sport that doesn't lead to any of those."
In the photo (by Kevin Winter/Getty Images) Pro Racer Tania Satchwell, Skiier Grete Eliassen, Skateboarder Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Women's Sports Foundation President Aimee Mullins and Surfer Mary Osborne arrive at Women's Sports Foundation's "Billie Awards" held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on April 15, 2008 in Beverly Hills, California. The Billies, held in honor of WSF founder Billie Jean King, are the only awards gala of its kind, honoring excellence in the media coverage and depictions of women and girls in sports. Maybe someday the foundation will invite competitive cheerleaders, as female athletes, to such functions !

Weight training young and old

Women use free weights or machines to increase their bone strength, since most will suffer from the bone-thinning disease of osteoporosis. Weight training also helps to tone the muscles, and shape women's bodies.
For younger athletes a study at the Boston Children's Hospital found that strength training by young athletes gives them better muscular coordination and neuromuscular activation. Essentially, young athletes muscles become "smarter," instead of becoming bigger. Another study at Tarleton State University in Texas, investigated the effectiveness and safety of weight training in pre- and early-pubertal adolescent athletes. It found that using weights at a young age did not affect the growth in height and weight of the subjects.
And back to the old. Weight training helps to ease chronic neck and shoulder pain. Women who worked out their neck and shoulder muscles using hand weights three times per week for 10 weeks showed a 70 to 80 percent decrease in their pain ratings (from Arthritis and Rheumatism magazine).

Mandy Moore real woman

Singer actress Mandy Moore performing at the Highline Ballroom in New York early this month. Mandy has a new album out titled after her real first and middle name: Amanda Leigh. She will be on international and domestic tours promoting Amanda Leigh. The album is an effort at carving out her own niche in the music industry, and Moore's continuing struggle to move on from her heady days as a blonde teen pop sensation. Mandy is now 25 and married (to Ryan Adams) but she tells People magazine that while she still has a love-hate relationship with her curvy hips, the beauty standards set by Hollywood are unattainable.
"[As a star] you have professionals who make you look a certain way ... I can't roll out of bed and look that way," says Moore. "I'm very comfortable with the way that I look, but it's not fair for women to use someone or something as a bar. It's not reality, for anyone. I am happy to be myself and represent something different for women."
As a teenager Mandy Moore was blonde and skinny, and she loved eating junk food. "I feel like when you're a teenager, you're supposed to have pizza. I'm not a big fan of 'dieting'. I wouldn't go out there and totally splurge on stuff, but I'm 17 and my favourite food is McDonald's." But as she grew older and became curvy (above right a brunette Mandy wears a bikini in Mexico), Moore eased up on the fast food, telling Cosmopolitan: "When I was 14, I was tall and spindly. By the time I turned 18, I had become a woman, and my body’s not going to go back to what it looked like when I was 14."
Mandy who has starred in movies like Saved, American Dreamz, and A Walk to Remember, says she loves eating seafood like sushi and shrimp and has a weakness for french fries, cookies, and pretty much anything containing peanut butter (below photo by Larry Armstrong for USA TODAY).
Mandy Moore is increasingly embracing natural organic food as part of her concern for the environment. She also drives a Prius and uses the services of an eco-friendly hybrid Lexus from Green Cab Boston. Moore describes herself as painfully shy and pretty anti-social, preferring to work with indie singers like Rachael Yamagata and Lori McKenna. Mandy Moore is not into drinking alcohol because she hates the thought of losing control, and says she has never been exposed to drugs. "Maybe I'm completely unaware," Moore told USA Today. "I've been drunk very few times in my life, and I feel like I live in a bubble because I have never seen drugs at a party before — like someone doing a line of cocaine."
"I want to be healthy, but in an industry where you can't wear a sample size because it's like a 0 or 2, it makes you feel bad about yourself. To go to a photo shoot, It's like Ugh, God, can't you just at least get a regular size, like a 6 or 8 or something?" Mandy Moore told Seventeen magazine (below left).

For physical fitness Mandy Moore does regular exercise; she also enjoys walking and hiking, specially with her dog Joni, a cute Terrier mix. One unusual taste for the cute Mandy is the sport of mixed martial arts, which combines various fighting styles like Thai boxing, judo, boxing, wrestling and jiu-jitsu. Moore got into watching the Ultimate Fighting Champion, with their slogan 'As real as it gets', a year ago, when her girlfriends brought her to a fight after a bad breakup. "It balances me out, because I’m a little bit boring, to be quite honest," says Mandy. "I feel like it’s one of the only things in my life that gives me a little edge."

Women abusing cocaine
According to the Association of Public Health Observatories in 2003, 8.2 per cent of men under 25 admitted taking cocaine, compared to 4.8 per cent of women. However the figures for women abusing cocaine jumped to 6.7 per cent while those for men fell to 7.3 per cent three years later. Jim McVeigh, of Liverpool John Moores University, who led the study, said: "We should not be surprised by these figures because we have seen the same thing happening with alcohol, which is intrinsically linked with cocaine. As women have become more prevalent in drinking environments they have been more exposed to cocaine, which has also become more widely available and cheaper."
Daily Mail
Earlier this year, the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System revealed that the number of women seeking help for cocaine addiction has doubled in just two years. Researchers said that many women are using cocaine because they do not realise the significant health risks it poses, including convulsions, heart failure and stroke. And then celebrity users such as Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse has led to many women viewing the drug as socially acceptable and glamorous.
If health and the law can't induce British women from stopping their cocaine abuse, then follow the example of Helen Mirren: "I loved coke. I never did a lot, just a little bit at parties. But what ended it for me was when they caught Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon, in the early 80s. He was hiding in South America and living off the proceeds of being a cocaine baron. And I read that in the paper, and all the cards fell into place and I saw how my little sniff of cocaine at a party had an absolute direct route to this f***ing horrible man in South America."

Gwyneth Paltrow confusing advice

Gwyneth Paltrow, appearing on The Tonight Show with its new host Conan O'Brien, said that she has a website Goop.com where she gives lifestyle advice to mostly female fans. In the photo above the 36-year old actress is posing with her trainer Tracy Anderson for Gotham magazine. Tracy helped Gwyneth get her body back in shape for the movie Iron Man. "She wanted a Victoria's Secret butt, like Gisele!", says Tracy.
Gwyneth Paltrow has two kids, a daughter Apple and a son Moses (left), with her vegetarian rocker husband Chris Martin of the band Coldplay. Gwyneth herself was a vegan and passionately did Yoga at 4:30 each morning, telling In Style: "I'm really not a morning person at all. It's just sheer determination. I'm very strict with myself. When I practice six days a week and eat clean food, I feel much better."
But after her pregnancy she changed this diet. "I was seriously macrobiotic for four years. When I got pregnant, it changed. I couldn't go near anything healthy. I love anything fried - fish and chips - Branston pickle, red wine." Now even after having her two kids Gwyneth continues her meat eating; on Goop she says that we must have fish or chicken with every meal for protein. Confusing advice, because there is enough protein in beans, grains, legumes, nuts, and soya. Then at another place she sings the praises of meat substitutes!
Gwyneth also angered animal-rights groups and her vegan friends like Moby and Stella McCartney when she became the face of the autumn collection of fur-lined boots and bags from Italian designers Tod's last year. But on Goop, it's Paltrow's fashion advice that is cool and sensible. Below Gwyneth looks chic in a photo shoot for Spanish Vogue:
Gwyneth will reprise the role of Pepper Potts in Iron Man 2, competing in fashion and good looks with Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, a hot Russian spy.

Virginity confusion
The results of a survey among teenage girls by CosmoGirl! magazine, asking them which sexual activity, if experienced, counts as losing one's virginity. The nature of the survey and the diverse, contradictory responses, shows the prevailing confusion about virginity. It also shows the value attached to female virginity.
The actress Brooke Shields gave an interview to Living Health talking about her marriage, children, sun exposure problems, and her love of chocolate, but the media seized on just one answer to an innocuous question:Q: What’s your biggest health regret?
A: Not learning to love the way I looked earlier. And I think I would have had sex a lot earlier! [Laughs.] I think I would have lost my virginity earlier than I did at 22. I had the public and all this pressure, and I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldn’t have had issues with weight—I carried this protective 20 pounds [in college]. It was all connected. And to me, that’s a health regret.
There have been many celebrity virgins, and proclamations of virgin status and chastity promises by female celebrities always make headlines, like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
In her answer Brooke Shields says she didn't have sex at a younger age because:
1) She wasn't happy in her own skin.
2) Because of the intense media scrutiny and pressures of being a celebrity.
The virginity confusion is intensified because the word virgin implies innocence and purity, which makes girls who have not had sexual intercourse very desirable for men. 18-year old Alina Percea auctioned her virginity on a website so that she could afford to study computing at university. Virginity auctions are becoming common as a means of making money, rebelling against parents, or to be the focus of sexual attention.
Young people do these things without thinking of the consequences; at that age they believe they are invincible and nothing bad can happen to them. The implications of having a first experience through paid sex are quite profound on self-esteem, moral values, and future relationships. More dangerous consequences are that such teens will make it a habit and turn towards prostitution or drug abuse and suffer from STDs and depression.
The word "virgin" should just be banned from use! There are no innocent girls because we all become sexually aware and curious about our bodies. The choice of becoming sexually active and having relationships is up to the individual girl, but there are still right and wrong reasons for having sex at any age.
