Jessica Simpson relationship workout

Workouts are a great way to relieve stress. Cute, goofy, and recently heart-broken Jessica Simpson is using her fitness regimen to get over her relationship with NFL star Tony Romo:

Simpson had put on some weight while she was dating Romo. So when Tony dumped Jessica just before her 29th birthday she told a friend, "I want my old body back.” And this friend told OK! Magazine:"She went into her kitchen, got a trash bag and started to clear it out." Jessica has been spotted several times in the last two weeks heading to celeb trainer Harley Pasternak’s West Hollywood fitness center. "Jess is serious about getting her body back into fighting shape," her pal reveals to OK!. "Working out is helping to give her focus and clear her head. It’s better than sitting around moping or throwing pity parties with ice cream sundaes."

Simpson's fluctuating weight is not due to any eating disorder; she gains weight whenever she's in a stable relationship. There's more eating out and Jessica doesn't need to worry about her body image. This happened first in 2004 when Jessica was married to Nick Lachey, and again in 2007 while she was in a relationship with singer John Mayer. And after each break-up Jessica focused her energies on getting her body back into shape.

Jessica Simpson is 5'3" tall and has a normal figure of 36-24-36. In 2005, while filming the Dukes of Hazzard, Jessica had daily two-hour workouts with weight-training, running, squats and lunges, with personal trainer Michael Alexander. Simpson also followed a low-carb, high-protein diet which included grilled chicken, fish and green vegetables. Of her sexy look in the movie, Jessica proudly said, "My body is definitely an accomplishment."

Jessica Simpson has a new TV show The Price of Beauty on VH1, in which she travels the world to study the local fashions, dietary fads and beauty regimes. While gossip about the show claims that $25,000 is spent on her hair and makeup, Jessica Simpson says, "I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful."

Lose weight by taking pictures of food

Looking at food is supposed to stimulate appetite. Taste and scent attract us to food as much as a well-presented meal, with all its vibrant colours and shapes.

But Brigid Moss, health director of women's magazine Red, managed to lose weight by looking at her food!

In an interview for the August issue of Red magazine Brigid says her secret was taking pictures of her food, and then looking at them after she had eaten, even days later.

Brigid says, "Taking the pictures meant I had become fixated on what I was eating. Looking back, though, I can see that there was a self-discipline creeping in because I was being confronted every night with what I'm putting in my stomach. Portion sizes gradually shrank, and knowing what I'd eaten meant that if one day I'd overindulged, the next I deliberately ate less. That's why, by the end of week four, I'd lost 3lb."

Natalie Portman body fitness

Petite actress Natalie Portman, with her big brown eyes and round cheeks, says she has maintained the same figure from the age of 14, when she stopped growing. Natalie is 5'3" tall and has a slim figure of 34A/B-25-35.

"I know I look small, but I never feel small," says Natalie Portman, on left wearing a body hugging outfit as Queen Amidala in the Star Wars movies. She trained to be a dancer from a young age and was also a track athlete in school; these physical activities kept her fit till she joined college. Natalie got the role of Queen Amidala when she graduated from school: "I hadn't even seen a Star Wars movie until I got the part," Portman says. "I mean, come on. I'm a girl."

Natalie Portman has dated actors Zach Braff, Gael García Bernal and Jake Gyllenhaal, has been spotted with model Nathan Bogle and musician Devendra Banhart. "Dating's hard enough as it is without the whole world knowing about it," Natalie says. "I try to live my life as normally as possibly and that includes my love life. I think so far a lot of what I do in my private life has managed to pass under the radar mainly because I'm so small. I don't usually wear much make-up and I dress pretty casually so I often pass unnoticed." Her favorite designers are Prada, Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, and Stella McCartney.

Natalie Portman looks fetching in her pink Rodarte gown at this year's Oscar Awards. On the right Natalie Portman walking in New York city. She was born Natalie Hershlag in Israel (June 9, 1981) to an American mother and Israeli father; the family relocated to Syosset, New York, where Natalie spent the rest of her childhood. When she started acting Natalie took on her maternal grandmother's surname Portman to protect her privacy.

28-year old Portman has been a vegetarian since the age of 8 and says that she doesn't even eat gelatin or any products that are meat based. "I am a very strict vegetarian. I just really love animals and I act on my values." Her love for animals led her to refuse to wear leather or leather shoes, which are made by killing animals. But Natalie is okay with wearing woolen garments because no animals are killed for their wool, which simply grows back on the animal. Recently under the influence of vegan co-star Tobey Maguire, with whom Portman stars in Brothers, releasing Dec 4 2009, she tried going vegan. "I was around Tobey Maguire in rehearsals and he's vegan and I was, like, this is nice. I'm honest about caring about animals. You know, eggs and milk products, there's a lot of animal discomfort in that, too. [But] I don't know if it's a permanent thing." She also drives an eco-friendly Prius.

On the right Natalie Portman strikes a sexy pose for Italian Vogue. She graduated from Harvard University in 2003 with a degree in Psychology but could not continue her sporty interests: "I think, especially in those first few years of college, my body started changing a lot. I got hips. Your metabolism changes; you're not exercising as much. I ran track for a couple of years in high school, and I was also dancing. I was always doing something. At Harvard, you don't really join the team unless you're a star." Nowadays she works out with fitness trainers like Harley Pasternak.

Natalie was quite the innocent girl even after college. “I’d never walked down the street on my own until I went to college,” Portman has admitted. “I never tried smoking. I don’t drink. I never tried any drugs.” Even the Hollywood experience has left Natalie squeaky clean and innocent. "I saw cocaine for the first time a month ago in Spain," Portman told Vanity Fair in 2006. "I mean, for the first time in my life somebody was like, You want a line? I was like, Oh, my God!"

Natalie Portman made her debut in the movie Léon as a 12-year old but the reaction of male viewers to her wearing lipstick, a choker and lacy gloves was disturbing. “All of a sudden I was reading reviews that were talking about the development of my breasts under my T-shirt,” she said. “That was so upsetting to me as a 12-year-old to read about.” Her father had instilled a golden rule in Natalie: “He says if I haven’t done it in real life, I shouldn't do it on screen.” Portman refused roles which required nudity and in Closer (above photo), where she played a stripper-waitress and for which she won a Golden Globe, the nude scenes were cut. Natalie changed her mind about on screen nudity and exposed her body (but no frontal nudity) in Hotel Chevalier, and in another torture scene in Goya's Ghosts, which she later regretted.

Natalie says the only unusual thing about her body is her weirdly small pinkie-toe: "I think the pinkie toe is pretty vestigial, as is the earlobe -- I mean, they don't serve any real purpose. When people make fun of me, I say I'm more evolved, but I think I just have some physical abnormalities."

Rachel Christie model athlete

Rachel Christie, the first black Miss England, is an athlete and niece of 100 metres Olympic gold medallist Linford Christie. The 20-year-old Rachel specialises in the heptathlon and the 400 metres and is hoping to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Miss England Christie has won medals at major UK race meets such as the AAA and South of England championships. She trains at the stadium in Hammersmith, west London, named after her uncle. Rachel Christie entered modeling competitions to launch a career as a model and fund her athletics training.

Rachel Christie, center and winner of Miss England 2009, is flanked on her left by second place 21-year-old Katrina Hodge, a Lance Corporal decorated for bravery in the Iraq War, and on her right by third place blonde Viki Bailey. Rachel competed for Miss London twice, becoming Miss Fitness the first time and winning the title this year.

Rachel Christie will participate for the Miss World crown in South Africa later in November. "When I was young I was deprived of a lot of things because everything was unstable," she explains. Christie entered the contest in the hope of launching a modelling career that might fund her athletics training. "I'm just an athlete at the minute, which means I'm unemployed and I'm broke. Modelling could fit round training in a way that a lot of other jobs couldn't."

5'10" tall Rachel Christie has a big appetite, devouring cake, ice cream, chicken and bacon club sandwiches in a typical day. She trains for up to three-and-a-half hours a day, six days a week. "I must be the only beauty queen who eats cake every day," she giggles, "because I burn off every crumb." Victory in South Africa would decide if Rachel Christie becomes an athletic model or an athlete who dabbled in modeling; but so far she is firm on taking part in the 2012 London Olympics.

Alcoholic Ginger Beer for young drinkers?

Traditional ginger beer is non-alcoholic; it is called beer only because it is produced through fermentation. And ginger has been used as cure for nausea, seasickness and morning sickness. But now Scottish brand Crabbie's is producing an alcoholic ginger beer (above) with a 4% alcohol content. Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer is served in 500ml bottles, for around £1.99, and blends natural ginger and spices from across the globe to produce a grown-up ginger beer. A spokeswoman for the brand said the drink is aimed at "25 to 45-year-olds who are looking for a refreshing summer drink."

But critics believe that like other alcopops, this alcoholic ginger beer, is aimed at young drinkers, particularly girls. Dr Evelyn Gillan of Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems says, "Ginger beer is a flavour that many young people are familiar with. The companies go with flavours that are well known and add alcohol to them as a way of attracting younger drinkers." She added that 70% of 15-year-old girls in Scotland who had consumed alcohol in the previous week had done so with alcopops. "This is highly irresponsible marketing, particularly when you consider that the earlier a young person drinks, the higher the risk that they go on to develop alcohol-related problems in later life."

Sophia Bush health information

Attractive Sophia Bush from One Tree Hill, believes she has sufficient information on health matters. Sophia recently celebrated her 27th birthday with 12 of her closest friends at Nobu West in Hollywood on July 8. She tells The Daily 10 on E!: “As I’m getting older, I appreciate being healthy for the way that I feel, you know for being able to get through a sixteen hour day which is easier when you’re body is functioning properly. But I’m not one of those crazies who’s in the gym everyday. I think its really strange with people saying, this is my daily regimen and this is my diet and this is my crazy weight loss tip. It informs a side of physical obsession that I really don’t think is healthy, especially for the young girls who watch our show.”

Below Sophia Bush is wearing a plaid taffeta minidress by Miu Miu and black leather peep-toe pumps by Jimmy Choo in a photo shoot for Ocean Drive magazine. The black-and-gold enamel bracelet is by David Webb.

As she grows older Sophia Bush is concerned with the state of health care in her country, the United States, and tells Health magazine: "It’s easy to be in your 20s and feel like you’re invincible. But I had a friend who at 23 went through two rounds of lymphoma, beat cancer, and then had to beat it again. And my grandfather died of lung cancer last year, which was really hard. I’ve had many family members go through the health-care system, and it just shocks me that we leave so many people by the wayside in this country."

Sophia Bush, Brody Jenner, and AnnaLynne McCord at Ocean Pacific's new OPen Campus line launch party at Mel’s Diner on July 7 in West Hollywood, California. The three shot pictures and video for the line's new campaign at University High School in LA with photographer Larry Bartholomew. The campaign is playfully dubbed, “OPen Campus” and the photo shoot featured the celebrity cast getting ready for the school year; cheering on the bleachers, running down the steps of the school, on the football field and hanging out on a custom Op bus.

"Op is all about having fun," said Anna Lynne (right), in the above photo with Sophia Bush and Solange Knowles. "The cast is now great friends and we had a lot of fun shooting this campaign and showing off what's going to be in style for back to school."

Don't be fooled by that sweet happy smile, Sophia Bush knows......boxing! "I love to box. I once took a kickboxing class in college and got totally hooked. One of the things Jason and I do is heavy-bag training. He puts on the padded gloves, and we do combinations. It’s a good thing as a woman to feel powerful, and boxing is a great way to work out all your aggression."

Sophia Bush works out with her trainer Jason Walsh and sometimes with Harley Pasternak. Sophia keeps up with all the latest health and fitness information; last year she told Health magazine: "I just got a vibrating plate called a VibraSlim and I’m so excited about it. You can work out on it, but I use mine after a workout to shake out my muscles. And what’s neat is that it helps you build bone density. I’m 26 now, and thinking about the fact that women are developing osteoporosis in their 40s."

Sophia's diet is all about sensible eating, but not denying yourself. "I love food, you know, my family is Italian. I can’t get enough of it. I love bread and cheese and pasta and good wine and all of it really. But I try to eat something green once a day."

Sophia Bush with Penny; she adopted the pit bull at the Petco Adoption Day at a Petco Store in Los Angeles on 30th May. "I wear sunscreen every day. I wish I was better and wore it all over my body but I wear sunscreen on my face and neck every day, 30 to 50 SPF every day, and if I’m going to be outside all day, 70." Sophia Bush is 5'4" tall and is considered "curvy" in Hollywood even though she only wears size 2 (US). Sophia does not smoke and drinks moderately: "I’m not a party girl, but that doesn’t mean I sit at home and watch old Shirley Maclaine movies and reruns of Golden Girls. But I could never go out and be one of the Hollywood party girls who goes out six nights a week. I would die!"

Chantelle Houghton eating disorder

Glamor model Chantelle Houghton spoke to Heat magazine about her long battle with the eating disorder of bulimia, and her obsession with being skinny: "I was making myself sick a lot, so food was just coming straight back out of me. I was obsessed from the minute I woke up in the morning until the minute I went to bed. I was constantly watching what I was eating. Food was always on my mind. I was literally drinking about eight of those litre-and-a-half bottles a day. The water would fill me up."

After winning Celebrity Big Brother 2006, Chantelle Houghton became a millionaire and married pop star Samuel Preston, with whom she split a year later. "Of course bad things have happened, but what is there to complain about? I'm on the cover of magazines. I've got a lovely new house. I've just bought a Queen-sized bed. It's French antique, but not old." But Chantelle admits that posing nude in magazines, and her days as a page three girl, were a huge mistake: "I had people tell me that I needed to lose weight, put lots of make-up on, go out, etc. I hated a lot of it because I felt like I was putting on an act. I didn't like doing all the poses." In her early modeling days Chantelle Houghton worked as a look-alike for Paris Hilton. "I look like Paris Hilton, not on purpose but it's just the way it turned out".

The pressure to appear as skinny as Paris also made Chantelle develop her eating disorder. The reality TV star has now learned to embrace her curves. "I have tried every diet there is, from body wraps and the Special K diet to just drinking water, but I know I have to eat healthily and go to the gym, because that's the only thing that works."

Chantelle Houghton natural curves

In her Big Brother profile Chantelle Houghton had said that her only form of exercise was doing the hula hoop! The 5'7" inch tall reality TV star is a vegetarian who used to eat plenty of junk food in the past, but now follows a healthy filling diet. "When I was skinny, I didn’t have a bum and didn’t feel very feminine. Having curves makes me feel much more womanly," Chantelle tells Closer magazine.

Eva Mendes fitness with curves

Eva Mendes soaking wet on the beach with her pretty feet buried in the wet sand, wearing a printed silk and viscose dress by Missoni, for Elle Magazine. Of Cuban heritage, 35-year old Eva Mendes grew up in LA and Miami, and she gave up her marketing studies degree at age 20 to become an actress. Her breakthrough film was Training Day, with Denzel Washington, where she appeared naked showing off her curves. Recently Eva Mendes became the face of Calvin Klein underwear and was criticized for her skinny appearance in the ads.

Eva Mendes Calvin Klein

Eva Mendes poses alongside British actor Jamie Dornan. Responding to criticism that her body looks unusually thin and skeletal Mendes said, "I don't have a starving body. I have a healthy toned body. I don't think people should criticize my advert. I prepped for it a lot and I think it's great. It was in the desert and we were all oiled up for it. That's my job!"

Eva Mendes has a healthy diet, enjoys Cuban and Indian food, and has other dietary pleasures. "I love chocolate! I like chocolate like no-one else and I love indulging. In fact, I am all about pleasure. I am the girl who will get three massages a week — that's my luxury and that's where I spend most of my money," says Eva. "I'm not a big shopper, but I love facials and spas and everything indulgent when it comes to the body and pampering. I am a girly girl at heart."

But to enjoy these pleasures Eva says, "I put in a lot of time at the gym to ensure that I am able to indulge at other times. Pleasure is pain." Mendes is in a long term relationship with George Gargurevich but says she has no interest in children or marriage. Eva Mendes began taking therapy to deal with her sudden success and the pressures of being stalked by paparazzi. Among the things her therapist taught her was to meditate five minutes a day. "Mostly I'm just concentrating on my breathing," says Eva. "But I also concentrate on changing my thoughts."

Her previous Calvin Klein ad was banned for being too racy, where Eva was photographed exposing her nipple. Apart from Training Day Eva Mendes has also exhibited some nudity in this year's We Own the Night. "I think I have a much more European approach to nudity," she says . "You know, I sometimes prefer to be nude. It makes more sense than having racy lingerie. I found it more beautiful to be nude and natural and less cheesy and less vulgar, actually."

Eva Mendes Tonight Show

Above right Eva Mendes and her curves on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Eva also went nude for a PETA ad where she exposed her shapely posterior: "I want people to know that...killing a poor animal and wearing [its fur] isn't cool. Respecting all life forms is cool." The environmentally conscious Eva Mendes drives a hybrid.

The 5'6" tall Eva Mendes says she does feel pressure to lose weight but accepts the fact that she is Cuban and naturally voluptuous. "I love my body. I acknowledge my strengths and ignore my weaknesses," Mendes told Self Magazine. "I have to say, I really like my butt. I think it's nice! And I think I have nice, strong legs."

Eva Mendes talks about her fitness routine and maintaining her beautiful curves with Harper's Bazaar Australia: "I have to work out four to six times a week. It's because I enjoy pasta and having a biscuit with my coffee. I didn't work out today, but tomorrow I'll run Bondi to Bronte. My Cuban heritage means if the zipper doesn't zip up the whole way, we just say screw it! No big deal." Apart from running Mendes is into weight training and working out with professional trainers in the gym.

Yogurt is healthy and tasty

Who doesn't love yogurt? Sweet or tart, mixed with fruits or with nuts, this creamy treat is one healthy dessert.

The name "yogurt" comes from the Turkish word for milk, which has fermented into a semisolid mass with a slightly sour taste. Yogurt is considered healthier than milk because it contains good bacteria, which feed on all the sugar in the milk (lactose), and convert it to lactic acid. This means that lactose-intolerant people can have tasty yogurt, and it also means that yogurt has fewer calories than milk.

These good bacteria do not affect the other goodies in milk, like calcium and protein, which pass on unchanged when the milk changes into yogurt. So eating yogurt gives all the benefits of milk. The good bacteria in yogurt are called probiotics, and they boost the immune system and lower cholesterol in the human body. New research also claims that yogurt is benficial for the digestive system, and that yogurt probiotics help restore gut health in HIV patients.

Yogurt in different parts of the world tastes differently, because the milk-producing cattle in many countries have varying diets. In tropical countries yogurt, called curd, is not eaten as a dessert and is instead used to make preparations which cool the body. Iceland has a low-fat strained yogurt called skyr, which is now being marketed by Whole Foods. Greek yogurt or giaurti is dry and chunky and eaten as a snack. Kefir is milk fermented with grains, a popular yogurt in Eastern Europe and Russia.

Yogurt can also be made at home to your own taste and thickness. Add half a cup of plain yogurt to 8 cups of warm milk, cover and leave to ferment overnight. In cooler climes the fermentation may take 24 hours. For vegans there is yogurt produced from soy milk.

Monica Seles lost weight by walking

Monica Seles weight

Monica Seles, former women's tennis world No. 1, suffered from depression and weight gain after a tragic incident during the peak of her career. In her autobiography titled "Getting a Grip" Monica describes her battle with weight gain, her experiments with various diets and workouts, and how she ultimately brought her weight under control by the simplest and best exercise of walking!

Monica Seles stabbing

Monica Seles first rose to No. 1 in 1991, when she was 17, the youngest woman to have topped the rankings at the time. By age 19, Seles already had won eight majors. But in April 1993, at the height of her success, she was stabbed in the back during a changeover at a tournament in Hamburg, Germany. Monica's breakthrough moment in tennis had come when she beat Germany's Steffi Graf in the 1990 French Open final, and later dislodged her rival from the no. 1 spot. Now at the Hamburg tournament a deranged fan of Steffi Graf, Gunther Parche, reached over a courtside railing and stabbed her with a knife, leaving an inch-deep slit between her shoulder blades.

In an interview with the Guardian Monica speaks of the lack of support from the German Federation and her fellow tennis players who, with the exception of Gabriella Sabatini, voted to deprive Monica of her number one ranking. "They just wanted me to go away, it felt like," she says. "I was 19 years old. Their money was tied up to the ranking system, and that was obviously an issue..."

Strangely her attacker was never tried for attempted murder and got just two years' probation because he was found to be psychologically abnormal. And at the same time her father was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. So when Monica began training to get back into the game, she was also turning to food for comfort, indulging in cookies and potato chips and midnight snacks. "And I could hear the comments: Oh my God! What happened to Seles? Did you see how big she was? I mean, I had been nearly stabbed to death. I had been out of the game for two years. My father was extremely sick. I was no longer a teenager. I turned to food for comfort. What did they expect?"

Seles reached the final of the US Open in 1995, where she lost to Steffi Graf, and won her final Grand Slam title at the 1996 Australian Open. But through all this her eating, and weight gain, was constant: "My heaviest ever was 1997 Wimbledon: my father was very sick, the outfit I had to wear that year didn't help, I was 35lb overweight."

Even her love life was affected by the weight gain. "A guy would always end up mentioning my weight in some form or other," says Monica. "They knew they should not go there; it was too painful for me. But they always did. It seemed so simple for them: stop eating, win grand slams, be happy."

She followed many diets and hired different fitness trainers, but the harder she trained the harder she ate: "seven-hour workouts would be followed by 5,000-calorie binges." Finally at age 30 she stopped all her yo-yo diets and instead tried some Yoga and walking: "on those walks I slowly and sadly came to terms with my life. I lost my dad way too early and it was agonisingly awful." Walking is a low-impact and low-stress exercise, which gives you time to think through your other problems, while giving your body a nice workout. And it worked for Monica: "My mistake was to think there was an easy fix, a miracle diet." Seles became slim enough to take part in Dancing With The Stars (above photo) in 2008. Monica was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame on January 15, 2009, honored for a career in which she won 53 singles titles, including four at the Australian Open, three at the French Open and two at the US Open; making a total of 9 Grand Slam wins.

Regina Halmich boxing workout

Regina Halmich was the unbeaten boxing world champion and one of the fittest women in Germany, in the past 12 years. She made women's professional boxing a serious sport in Germany before her retirement in 2007. But Regina still feels that pro female boxers are paid much less than their male colleagues. Hamlich had to use every trick in the book to earn a viable income, like appearing on TV shows, posing for Playboy and Penthouse, and modeling for leading brands.

Regina Halmich in Playboy magazine Germany. She posed topless for both Playboy and Penthouse, both to express her feminity and earn additional income (reportedly more than she earned from boxing). Regina says she doesn't regret her decision because it ultimately led to more awareness for female boxing. While she is ranked alongside male boxing champions like Wladimir Klitschko, the gap in their income levels is vast.

Regina Halmich says she's fought with boys in boxing matches since age 13, but as a professional boxer the most popular of her male-female fights was with TV show host Stefan Raab. Her first time kissing a guy was at the age of 16. She's had her nose broken twice in her career, and may have surgery to get it in shape, but her biggest fear is letting a dentist work on her teeth! Halmich is 32 and presently dating Andreas Jourdan but says she'll wait three more years before thinking of having kids. Regina writes on "Spiegel online" and does commentary on the Pro7 channel for boxing matches.

Regina Halmich is 5'3" tall and has always fought in the flyweight class, weighing between 108-112 pounds through her career. As a young girl Regina developed interest in martial arts like judo, karate, kickboxing, and Thai boxing. She even won championships in these sports. Now after her retirement Regina tries to stay fit by jogging four times a week and doing her fitness routine.

Regina Halmich turned her boxing fitness routine into a workout DVD titled "Dich Fit Box" (box your way to fitness), in collaboration with sports scientist Christian Görisch. "Boxing is a demanding sport requires speed, strength, endurance, flexibility and mental strength," says Halmich on the DVD. The workout DVD covers warm-ups, stretching, strength training, sparring, punching bags, and cooling down.

Like any German she loves sausages and grilled meat, specially of turkey. "The turkey is a very low fat meat, has lots of protein content, and is very rich in B vitamins. In other words, good for your health, and also fun to grill." Regina is also the ambassador for Frico Leicht & Lecker low fat cheese (above photo).
